BMW E60 5 Series Retrofit Active Seats

There is nothing more rewarding than completing a job that others have given up on!!

A customer came to us recently with his BMW E60 5 series that he had asked another auto electrician to retrofit his active seats into his car, the problem was they had wired them up but had not properly coded the car to accept these seats. This is like having a bath installed but not plumbed in and being charged for it!

The customer was not happy with the previous auto electrician as they had promised that they could do this work without a problem and was surprised when we said we could do it. First I checked all the wiring that had been added and the looked at the coding of the car using our Autologic diagnostic equipment and having then found that the seat modules were second hand I knew that BMW themselves would not be able to code the car and perhaps this is where the previous auto electrician was going wrong.

Before coding can start we need to check if there are any updates for the electronic modules in the car and if there are then we use the Autologic machine to do these. Next the VO of the car is looked at and then modified and reprogrammed to accept the retrofitted active seats, if everything is done correctly the active seats will now work correctly.

And they did !

Whilst we were doing the coding of the car the customer asked if we could activate the rev counter to be displayed on the head up display. We did this for him although it is not normally possible unless the car is an M5.

Another job with a twist that makes every day different.
